The True Nature of Cats by Purina ONE: We’ve heard a lot of questions about how to help your cat better use the litterbox. Here are some tips to consider and share with other cat owners. We’d love to hear whether these tips work in your home: DOs 1. One litter box for each cat in the house, plus one (e.g. 2 cats = 3 boxes), and at least one litter box on each floor of the house. 2. Place box in a quiet place, with privacy for the cat. 3. Scoop at least once daily, and wash litter boxes weekly with a mild soap. 4. Make sure cat can easily get in and out of and can turn about in the box (larger boxes for larger cats and smaller boxes for kittens) 5. When first selecting litter, try different types in different boxes and let your cat select her favorite 6. Keep litter deep enough for cats to dig and bury (2 to 3 inches) 7. Try various styles of litter boxes so the cat can choose their preferred type DON’Ts1. Do not place mats that are uncomfortable for cats to walk on in front of box 2. Do not punish a cat for not using the box 3. Do not clean litter boxes with harsh chemicals (e.g. bleach or ammonia) 4. Do not place box in a loud or busy place in your house Credit: www.facebook.com/TheTrueNatureofCatsbyPurinaONE
