Spaying by 5 months of age is the best way to ensure your pet does not have an unplanned pregnancy and will reap the most health benefits from spay/neuter.
Pyometra - 1 in 4 female dogs will develop a life-threatening uterine infection or “pyometra” during their lifetime. Spaying before the first heat prevents this.
Cancer - The serious and expensive possibility that your pet will develop cancer or tumors of the reproductive organs is completely eliminated because these organs are removed.
Heat/Pregnancy - During a heat cycle, your pet can become pregnant. After spaying, your pet will no longer go into heat, eliminating the mess and discomfort of living with an animal in heat. Spaying also prevents the possibility of pregnancy and the dangers associated with giving birth.
Breast Cancer - Spaying before the first heat nearly eliminates the chance your pet will develop mammary (breast) cancer. Mammary cancer is often fatal since it frequently spreads to the lungs.
